Current Availability

Please note:

  • My practice is currently full. I have capacity to add both weekly and fortnightly clients to my waiting list. I am taking on clients falling into bands A and B on my fee sliding scale- please see below for full explanation of the scale. I do not have capacity to add ‘concessionary’ or ‘solidarity slot’ clients to my waiting list at the present time.

  • I do not work with certain issues/ experiences. Please check the exemptions section of the ‘What I Offer’ page for more details

If the above work for you financially and in terms of support offered, you are very welcome to introduce yourself and ask questions by emailing me at cj@rainorshinetherapy.co.uk. Alternatively, you can also go straight onto the next step of filling in the initial contact form which can be found here.

  • You can find out when clients currently starting therapy joined the waiting list here

How The Sliding Scale Works

I charge a sliding scale of £25-£65/ hour depending on financial capacity. This allows me to offer accessible therapy whilst also ensuring the sustainability of my practice and appropriately valuing my time and professional abilities.

Based on principles of economic justice, the fee clients pay is proportionate to what they have available to give. Those with more financial capacity support those with less capacity to access therapy. The scale takes in account variations in both income and financial outgoings (for example subsidised rent would mean you had less outgoings than average and medical expenses would mean you had more outgoings than average) My sliding scale is based on the ‘Green Bottle’ sliding scale (see below for further information).

Please Bear in Mind…

  • I work on a basis of trust and do not ask for proof of income. However, as this sliding scale is offered in a spirit of generosity, my request is that clients use it honestly. There is an allocated number of slots available for each band

  • There is routinely more demand for lower slots than higher. Whilst I encourage anyone who needs a lower price slot to take it, if you take up a slot at a lower rate that slot will not then be available to someone else who may not be able to afford therapy without it

  • Once you start therapy you will be committed to paying for it on a regular basis. If the therapy I offer is beyond your budget, I would be happy to talk through with you organisations and other therapists which may offer more affordable alternatives.

  • Organisations pay a set fee of Band B.

  • If a third party, such as a parent, is paying for therapy, the rate is based on the third party’s financial capacity.

Sliding Scale

Sliding Scale (Non-Concessionary Rates)

Please read through the ‘Sliding Scale’ section below and decide a band that best matches your circumstances. This should be the category where you have a sense you fall, however, you do not need to agree with every statement. Differences between the bands are in bold.

A: £65 High:

  • I am comfortably able to meet my needs all the time.

  • I am employed and/or have a regular income.

  • I have access to ample financial savings or assets.

  • I have an ample disposable income

B: £55 Average (Organisational Set Rate):

  • I am comfortably able to meet my basic needs the majority of the time.

  • I am employed and/or have a regular income.

  • I have access to some financial savings

  • I have a moderate expendable income

C: £45 Low:

  • I may stress about meeting my basic needs but still regularly achieve them.

  • I have a regular income.

  • I don't have any savings

  • I rarely have an expendable income

Discounted Rates

Solidarity Slots: £25

I reserve a limited number of ‘solidarity slots’ for people who are experiencing financial hardship (please see paragraph below for a definition of this) and who identify with two or more of the following categories:

  • trans, non-binary, gender diverse and/or

  • disabled and/ or

  • a person of colour.

Solidarity slots are offered at £25/ session. I make this offer because people from these groups tend to be more economically disadvantaged.

Concessionary Slots:£35

I also reserve two £35 concessionary slots for full time students whose incomes are significantly reduced due to their studies and/ or for those on means tested benefits.

Financial Hardship:

If you resonate with the following statements you are likely to be experiencing financial hardship:

  • I often stress about meeting my basic needs and don't always achieve them

  • I am unemployed or underemployed or on a low wage

  • I qualify for benefits (UK)

  • I have no financial savings or expendable income

Fortnightly Slots

I have a specific number of fortnightly slots I offer. Whether or not I am currently offering fortnightly slots is stated in the ‘current availability’ section at the top of this page.

Credit

Thanks and credit to Alexis Cunningfolk for devising the Green Bottle scale and Sage Stephanou for inspiring me to use Cunningfolk’s work through the RTN membership sliding scale; for their labour in further developing the scale in the context of anti-oppressive practice; and for allowing me to use their wording on my page. You can find out more about the concept of the Green Bottle Sliding Scale here.
